Introduction

Prep counters are a brilliant and useful piece of refrigeration equipment for any professional kitchen, especially where space is at a premium and you need to produce food quickly to order.

What are Prep Counters? 

Prep counters, put simply, are refrigerators with a top you can work on. However, most people think of prep counters as those with a top which contains pots for food, which is how we think of them. These pots, which are chilled, make production easier and quicker, helping you to remain on top of every rush and manic session. 

What’s so good about prep counters? 

The key point about prep counters is they make your kitchen more efficient, in two ways.

1: Prep counters help you produce more food, more quickly. Thanks to their setup, with food containers out in the open, you can have your refrigerator close to the pass and quickly assemble the ingredients of your most popular dishes easily, without having to reach into your fridge to do so – saving your back and valuable time too. Food is prepared and delivered quicker, boosting your reputation and increasing table turnover, which in itself can boost profits, especially if you have set busy periods during the day during which you have to maximise you sales. Time matters. 

2: Prep counters save you money by saving you electricity. By having the refrigerated pots on top of your refrigerator you not only reduce the time it takes you to make up your dishes, it also reduces the amount of time you have to open and close your refrigerator. As every time you open your refrigerator you let in heat which your fridge’s compressor has to start up to counteract, costing you money in the process, the less you open your fridge the less money it costs you to run. On top of this, the less you open your fridge, the less strain you are putting on your compressor and by reducing that load, you are extending its life. 

So by using a prep counter you are using less electricity day to day, and you’re putting off the day you have to replace the fridge. 

Conclusion

By using a prep counter you are undoubtedly speeding up your food preparation, and saving money week to week on your utility bills at the same time. In the long run, the use of a prep counter can actually extend the lifespan of your fridge and eke out extra value from the money you spend on the unit.
